A day at Archeon
Theme Park
(continued)

'I'm Gaius Aquarius, slave of Lucius Aquarius.
Sometimes I put on the mask of Charon and participate at the gladiatorial
games.
My job is very satisfying: I knock wounded fighters on the head, and send
them to Hades.'

'Hmmn. What do you think, Marcus?
Sanguinus or the Beast?'
'Don't distract me. I'm trying to decide on my next move!'

'We do not attend the games.
Like good Roman matrons we sit and sew and discuss topics suitable for high-class
Romans.
Psst! Did you hear about that new gladiator called the Beast? He's very
handsome!'

'I am a small Roman baby.
I have absolutely no interest in the games.'
'I am an even smaller
Roman baby. Zzzzzzzzzz.'

We're exhausted. Our mistress
is going to attend the games today.
We've anointed her with fragrant oils, massaged her feet, arranged her hair
and given her a manicure.
She wanted to look her best because Sanguinus, her favourite gladiator, is
fighting today...

'I must look my best.
That heart-throb of the girls, Sanguinus, is fighting in the arena today!'
'Personally, I prefer the one they call the Beast.
Don't tell my husband, but I've bet several hundred sestercii on him!'

'Salve. I am Gaius, (yes,
it's a common name).
I'm a maker of fine mosaics.
As you can see, I am working on a special commission.
A noble woman wanted a picture of her favourite gladiator.
You just can't get away from them!'

'Waiting to lead the procession
into the amphitheatre is a thirsty business.
Hey, darling! Yes, you in the caupona... How about a glass of chilled wine?'

'Those boys must be sweating
like pigs in this heat.
I suppose we can spare some wine...'

'Here you are, sir. A nice beaker of well-watered wine.'

'Thanks for looking after
my men , girls.
Here's a gold piece to show my gratitude!
I suggest you bet on Sanguinus...'

'Those legionaries drink a lot!
The caupona has ordered another barrel of wine!'

'Time to go to the Emperor's
box and watch the games...
Now where did those litter bearers go?'
